This Saturday we attended two Art Events around town. One was Open Studios in Hunter’s point. This event was much larger than we anticipated. We only went to one building but there was just artist after artist. We got a painting from an artist named Lola, who used to have a great cafe in Hunter’s point. The painting is the “HUH” pictured above. Her website is www.ho-made.org.

Two other of the artists we liked were Patty Neal and Audrey Welch. Patty Neal paints California Landscapes, urban and natural. A few pictures of San Francisco she had reminded me very strongly of a certain view I had out the back window of my last apartment. She captures that sort of intimate detail of the city pretty well. Her website is: www.pattyneal.com. Audrey Welch was showing some abstract paintings that had an interesting surface quality. They feature repeated circles on wood blocks, made by layering paint and then sanding the paint off. Check out her website: www. audreywelch.com.

The other event we attended was the annual art auction for Southern Exposure Gallery. There we got a work by the artist Jen Pack–the green cube above. The piece is made of many small strips of chiffon sewn together and stretched over a wood frame. I can not imagine having the patience to sew this. In my experience it is hard enough just to sew chiffon, but then to sew all of these small pieces is pretty amazing. The rest of her work is really pretty stellar too. Totally gorgeous. You should check out her website–www.jenpack.com because my picture does not do her work justice.
